Dewey William Boyd, 89, passed away July 1, 2011, in the Piggott Community Hospital. He was born on November 7, 1921, in the Gravel Hill Community west of St. Francis, Arkansas. His parents were Louie Edward and Lovie Polsgrove Boyd. He was united in marriage to Armenda Jaggers on November 15, 1941, and to this union was born one daughter Bonnie Ellen Boyd. He professed his faith in Christ at the age of 20 and was baptized by Rev. Dewey Allen who was then pastor of Gravel Hill General Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, his twin brother, Louie at fifteen months and a younger brother Paul. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Madalyn Benbrook, Edith Ezell and Ada Settlemoir. He is survived by his wife, of sixty nine years, Armenda; daughter, Bonnie Ellen both of Piggott, Arkansas; one sister Lucille Jackson of Modesta, California. He is also survived by one grandson, John Jackson and wife Faith of Potosi, Missouri; one granddaughter, Charla Springer and husband Jimmy of Sherwood, Arkansas; six great-grandchildren: Bailey, Noah and Brody Jackson and Matthew Hicks, Nathaniel Hicks and wife Macy, Hannah Roberts, and many other relatives and friends. He also served in the Marine Corp during World War II, being with the first Marines landing in Nagasaki after the bomb hit. He served a year of the occupation of Japan. He was also a farmer for a time and worked for Brown Shoe Company for thirty years. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 3, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Jack Cole officiating. Burial is in Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Howard Young, Jim Duty, Eddie Benbrook, Larry Ezell, Charles Norman Ezell, and Nathaniel Hicks. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
