Evelyn Grimes, 84, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away Friday, June 3, 2011, in the Piggott Community Hospital. She was born on April 27, 1927, in Fagus, Missouri, and was the daughter of the late William "Willie" and Ethel Wheetley Vaughn. She was united in marriage to Johnie P. Grimes on December 23, 1942, and to this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Johnie Grimes; infant son, Larry Edward Grimes; son-in-law, Gaylon Dunlap; two brothers: Wilford Vaughn and Clyde Vaughn; three sisters: Noveda Sumpter, Wanda Jones, and Gladys Meade. Evelyn was a member of Gravel Hill General Baptist Church in St. Francis, Arkansas, and was Past Matron of the New Piggott Chapter # 623 Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from Brown Shoe Company. She is survived by her son, Dale Grimes and wife Donna of Piggott, Arkansas; two daughters: Joan Dunlap of Piggott, Arkansas, and Pat Poole and husband Jim of Piggott, Arkansas; seven grandchildren: Kim Grimes and partner Katrina; Travis Grimes and wife Kathleen, Scottie Dunlap and wife Michelle, Chad Speer and wife Nikki, Trent Grimes and wife Devon, Ashley Hoggard and husband Michael, and Kelly Ward; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters: Ann Pittman of Clarksville, Tennessee, Lola Brandon of Piggott, Arkansas, and Linda Whitehorn of Arab, Alabama; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Charles Richardson officiating. Burial is in Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis. Pallbearers are Travis Grimes, Trent Grimes, Chad Speer, Michael Hoggard, Scottie Dunlap, and Tommy Russell. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
