Obituary

Alma Jo Fowlkes, 87, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away January 31, 2020, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She was born on January 20, 1933, in Woodland Mills, Tennessee in the same house as her mother, and was the daughter of the late Roy and Frances Neoma (Thomas) Isbell. Alma was united in marriage to Joe Thomas Fowlkes on September 8, 1951, and to this union three children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Thomas Fowlkes; daughter, Debra Anne Webster; brother-in-law, Sam Brooks; brothers, John Isbell and Jere Isbell; sister, Joyce McDonald; and sister-in-law, Ramona Sue Fowlkes. Alma worked at Michigan Bell as a telephone operator until 1960, when she left after the birth of her second child to be a homemaker. After retiring in 1996, she and her husband moved to Piggott, where they were active in the VFW Auxillary and became members of Hitts Chapel General Baptist Church in Piggott, Arkansas. She enjoyed spending time at the local community center and enjoyed reading. Throughout her life she dedicated time to many different groups and activities. She supported many different charities and foundations. She was a lifetime member of the the VFW and she was the Clay County Representative of the Agency on Aging. She loved receiving pictures of her family and friends. Survivors include her sons, Steven Wayne Fowlkes and wife Trina of Houston, Texas, and James D. Fowlkes and wife Michelle of Jefferson, Georgia; son-in-law, Jeff Webster of Whittemore, Michigan; grandchildren, Ryan Webster and husband Andy of Walnut Creek, California, Bradley Webster and wife Stacey of Midland, Michigan, Kyle Webster of New York, New York, Brittany Fowlkes of New Port Richie, Florida, Erin Resendez and husband Ryan of Houston, Texas, Kelly Garcia and husband Ezequiel of Houston, Texas, Kaley Fowlkes of Jefferson, Georgia, and Jasen Fowlkes of Jefferson, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Reid Webster, Brynn Webster, and Presley Resendez; sister, Martha Bentley of Manchester, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Doris Brooks of Rives, Tennessee; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 8, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas, with Bro. Charles Richardson officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial to St. Jude Children's Research Center, P.O. Box 1000, Dept 142, Memphis, Tennessee, 38148.
