Obituary

Ava Jean Crittendon, 95, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away May 2, 2020, at the General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, Arkansas. She was born on April 7, 1925, in Searcy County, Arkansas, and was the daughter of Bluford and Roxie (McElroy) Harrell. Ava was united in marriage to John Virgil Crittendon on June 30, 1941. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bluford and Roxie Harrell; husband, John Virgil Crittendon; grandson, Michael Proctor; siblings, Clarence Tyler, Herman Tyler, Elbert Tyler, Garland Harrell, Sterling Harrell, Amos Harrell, Herbert Harrell, Marie Harrell, Freda Jackson, and Madge Harrell. Ava was a lifetime member of the First General Baptist Church in Piggott, Arkansas, and she enjoyed crossword puzzles. Survivors include her daughter, Veda Lyn Crittendon of Piggott, Arkansas; son, John Crittendon and wife Janice of Piggott, Arkansas, grandchildren, Connie Vaughn and husband Brian of Pollard, Arkansas, Kathy Hicks and husband David of Finch, Arkansas, and Eric Proctor and wife Laura of Neeleyville, Missouri; great-grandchildren, Samantha Featherston and husband Gus of Marmaduke, Arkansas, Ashley Vaughn of Pollard, Arkansas, Danielle Hicks of Finch, Arkansas, Dylan Hicks of Finch, Arkansas, and Brittany Parrish and husband Darrin of Piggott, Arkansas; great-great grandchildren, Macy Willet, Gracie Parrish, and Clayton Proctor; and many other relatives and friends. Graveside service will be held Monday, May 4, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas, with Ted Winberry officiating. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
