Obituary

Carl "Dennis" Burchell,77, of Piggott, Arkansas passed away Thursday February 5, 2026 at St. Bernard's Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Dennis was born in Clarkton, Missouri, on March 21, 1948, to Carl Burchell and Amy Joyce (Bell) Burchell. Dennis grew up in Clarkton, Missouri where he attended school and also played basketball for the Reindeer. When Dennis graduated from Clarkton High School he went to college at SouthEast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he received a Bachelor's of Science degree in both math and business.

On February 16, 1973, Dennis was married to Jeannie Becking at her parents home in Bernie, Missouri. They had two children: Beth Scott of Piggott, Arkansas, and Lori Hartwig of Stuttgart, Arkansas. They lived in Bernie, Missouri until they moved to Piggott in October 1978 where they have resided since and have made many friends and memories.

Dennis enjoyed being with his grandkids, fishing, working in his garden, and watching Gunsmoke or Grit. Dennis was a loving and devoted husband, father, papa, and friend. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Jeannie Burchell, daughters Beth Scott of Piggott, Arkansas and Lori Hartwig of Stuttgartt, Arkansas. And grandchildren: Logan (Hilary) Hartwig of Marion, Arkansas, Kristen Scott (Missy) of Piggott, Arkansas, Caleb (Sarah) Hartwig, and Dylan (Baylie) Hartwig both of Paragould, Arkansas; and great-grandchildren: Lincoln Hartwig, Parker Hartwig, Grayson Hartwig, Lillian Hartwig, Ruby Ann Hartwig, Wilks Hartwig, and coming in May, Woods Hartwig.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Monday February 9, 2026 at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott followed by the funeral at 1:00 p.m, with Steve Hargett officiating. Burial will follow in Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: grandsons Logan, Caleb, Dylan Hartwig, granddaughter Kristen Scott, Logan Hendrix and Fray Morrow. Honorary pallbearers will be: David Ankeman, Tony Pace, Vivan Reed, and Kirby Johnson.
