Obituary

Carolyn Joanne "Jody" McCluskey, 81, of Rector, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021, at her home on the Ridge West of Greenway. She was born January 6, 1940, in Mann Community near Piggott, Arkansas, to Tommie and Juanita (Sinko) Davidson. Jody was united in marriage to James Shelby McCluskey, her high school sweetheart, on June 7, 1957, after they started dating on December 19, 1955, that was the start of their journey through life and to this union eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Davidson and Juanita (Sinko) Davidson and sister, Marilyn (Davidson) Engle. Jody attended school at Pfeiffer School on Pfeiffer Road near Greenway, Arkansas, and the rest of her school years at Greenway School and High School, after consolidation. She was the Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1958. She excelled in basketball with a jump hook shot that was never blocked. She scored 50 points in many games and 60 points in one game. Jody was a Presbyterian by faith. She was saved and spent her life serving Jesus her Lord and Savior from an early age. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook and comforter of her family. Her cooking skills she learned at an early age from her mother, Juanita, who learned her skills from Effie Davidson - Jody's grandmother. Jody cooked her first full meal at the age of 12 years for her family and guests, Frosty and Louise Smith. She was an avid flower gardener and loved her yard and everything there. She loved "her hills and her home," moving to the hills West of Greenway on February 21, 1974. She wore many hats as a young mother working in the public, starting work in the Rector Shirt Factory and LA Darling in Piggott and Paragould, and an Insurance Company in later years. In her spare time, she refinished and repaired antique furniture, specifically old trunks, in her home. She was always busy, never seeming to tire. Her family and her Lord and Savior were her main priorities. Twenty years ago she was weakened by major surgery and never fully recovered, though the damage done was sapping her health every so slowly. She was a fighter. She was a trooper. She never gave up hope. She kept the faith. Survivors include her husband James McCluskey of the home; children, Jim McCluskey and wife Lesa of Rector, Arkansas, Jill Davidson of Piggott, Arkansas, Tom McCluskey of Rector, Arkansas, Tim McCluskey and wife Della of Greenway, Arkansas, Matthew McCluskey and wife Lorna of Greenway, Arkansas, Mark McCluskey and wife Brenda of Rector, Arkansas, Miles McCluskey and wife Shamala of Rector, Arkansas, and Nita Payne and husband David of Dresden, Tennessee; twenty grandchildren that loved and cared for her; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy Davidson of Zebulon, North Carolina and his family; sister Patsy Jones and husband Ray of Zebulon, North Carolina and their family; sister, Barbara Maisenhelder of Wilmington, North Carolina and many cousins both near and far.
