Obituary

Charles William "Midge" Conley, 85, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away December 10, 2021. He was born on September 11, 1936, in Pollard, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Ruail and Noma (Vaughn) Conley. Midge was united in marriage to Martha Jean (Benefield) Conley on October 3, 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Carl Conley; sister, Nadine Barksdale; and stepfather, King Nash. Midge retired from the St. Francis Fire Department and served as the Mayor of St. Francis for 16 years. Midge loved telling stories of his years spent working in California and in St. Francis in his youth. He loved fishing and was "the last Woppy" of the three men, Midge, Kenneth Ort, and Rube Walker, who could tell the biggest Whoppers. He was a mechanic and welder and could build just about anything including many dune buggies throughout the years. Midge served as Transportation Director and Bus Driver at the Piggott School District for 32 years. He loved the kids on his bus route. He also loved playing cards at Morris Farm Center in St. Francis and with his kids and grandkids and was a strategic player. Mostly, he loved his family deeply. Midge is survived by his wife, Martha Jean Conley, his three children, Tony Conley and wife Cindy of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, Steve Conley and wife Faith of Piggott, Arkansas, and Deanna Carr and husband Joey of Armorel, Arkansas; five grandsons, Christopher (Michelle) Conley of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Nathaniel Conley of Edinburg, Texas, Lance (Marah) Conley of Piggott, Arkansas, Monroe Carr of Armorel, Arkansas, and Markell Selvy (Chasity) of Prosper, Texas; four granddaughters, Heather (Justin) Webb of Pleasant Plains, Arkansas, Madison (Clinton) Haley of Rector, Arkansas, McKinley Carr and Mayson Carr of Armorel, Arkansas; six great-grandsons, Logan Pruitt, Riley Pruitt, Jaxon Pruitt, Ryder Pruitt, Will Webb, and Caleb Webb, 5 great-granddaughters, Claire Conley, the future Charleigh Conley, Angela Webb, Olivia Selvy and Carleigh Selvy; two brothers, Mike Nash and Quincy Nash of Madera, CA; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers were Chris Conley, Lance Conley, Nathaniel Conley, Monroe Carr, Clinton Haley, and Logan Pruitt. Honorary Pallbearers were Riley Pruitt, Jaxon Pruitt, Ryder Pruitt, and Markell Selvy. A private burial was held under the direction of Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas.
