Obituary

On Sunday, July 21, 2019, Charles Albert Hollis, loving husband and father of four children passed away with family by his side at age 81. Charles was born on October 30, 1937, in Greenway, Arkansas, to Obra Earl and Pauline (Cox) Hollis. He received his master's degree in animal nutrition and husbandry from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1962. While at the university he worked as an adjunct instructor in the agriculture department, he was on the traveling livestock judging team, an honorary member of the ag fraternity, Alpha Zeta, and worked at the University of Arkansas Experiment Station in Marianna, Arkansas. On February 24, 1967, he married Sandra Joe Dollins from Paragould, Arkansas. They raised four sons: Matthew, David, Luke, and Michael. Charles worked as the Greene County Extension Agent for several years before he retired and continued his work in farming, horses, and cattle. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and in 2014 he earned an award for fifty years of breeding registered quarter horses by the American Quarter Horse Association. He had a passion for cutting horses and team roping and was also part owner in H&M Rodeo Company. Charles was a member of the Greenway Church of Christ for 56 years, served on the Clay County Fair Board and Mitchell Cemetery Board for years. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Orbra Earl and Pauline Hollis; his step-mother, Alma Hollis; and his two brothers Greg and Gilbert Hollis. He is survived by his wife Sandra; sons, Mathew and wife Laura, David and wife Tracey, Luke and wife Tracy, and Michael and wife Jasa. Charles was blessed with eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas. A service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, a graveside ceremony will be at Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Arkansas. Memorials may be made to the Children's Home 5515 Walcott Road, Paragould, Arkansas, 72450, or to the Mitchell Cemetery Association.
