Obituary

Curtis Edward "Curt" Conaway, Jr., 75, of Farber, Missouri, passed away November 9, 2019, at the University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri. He was born on March 15, 1944, in Fagus, Missouri, and was the son of the late Curtis Edward and Leona Mae (Young) Conaway. He was united in marriage to Janet Yolanda Flowers on April 28, 1996. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Leona Conaway and brother, Gregory Conaway. As a kid Curtis and his family picked cotton and went state to state picking fruit. On January 3, 1963, he joined the Navy after serving a little over a year in the United States Army. During his career in the Navy, he traveled all over the world. He was honorably discharged on June 30, 1982, serving over 20 years as a Gunners Mate and earning many awards including the Combat Action Ribbon, 2 Purple Hearts, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal with Seven Stars, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Expert Pistol with Silver E, Expert Rifle with Silver E, National Defense Service Medal, and many other distinguished honors. After the military, he worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections for 20 years and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department for 2 ½ years. He enjoyed making walking sticks, attending auctions, fishing and camping, and was known for his storytelling. He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Kansas City Chiefs, and NASCAR especially watching his favorites – Dale Earnhart Sr., and Dale Earnhart, Jr. Survivors include his wife Janet Yolanda Conaway of Farber, Missouri; three sons: John Curtis Conaway, Matt Coose and wife Emily of Perry, Missouri, and Marcus Coose of Vandalia, Missouri; two daughters, Joanna Mullins of Qulin, Missouri, and Beth Miller of Farber, Missouri; nine grandchildren: Justin Ewing of Texas, John Curtis Edward Conaway of St. Louis, Missouri, Joseph Cloister Conaway of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Jordyn Clarice Conaway of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dylan Barr of Hannibal, Missouri, Will Coose of Hannibal, Missouri, Kelsie Anderson and husband Chris of Sturgeon, Missouri, Shelbie Miller of Hannibal, Missouri, Stephanie Miller of Farber, Missouri; great-grandson, Brayden Anderson of Sturgeon, Missouri; four brothers: Wayne Conaway of Benton City, Missouri; Tony Conaway and wife Sharon of Kennett, Missouri, Benny Conaway of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and David Conaway of New Town, North Dakota; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas. Burial is in Williams Cemetery near Piggott, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Saturday 10:00 a.m. until service time. A memorial service will be held Thursday, November 14, 2019, at 7:00 p.m. at Beinhoff Funeral Home in Vandalia, Missouri, with visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. until service time.
