Obituary

Dallas Wayne Book, Sr., was born January 17, 1954, in Flint, Michigan, to Henry D. and Mary F. (Mulherin) Book. On March 3, 2021, at the age of 67 years, 1 month, and 14 days he entered into eternal rest. At the age of 10, Dallas and family moved from Flint to Maynard, Arkansas, where he lived and attended school until he joined the Army. In 1971, Dallas married Paula Turner and to their union three children were born: Dallas (Vickie) Book, Jr. of Lake City, Arkansas, Dina (Willy) Griffa of Doniphan, Missouri, and Joseph (Misty) Book of Maynard, Arkansas. In 1994, Dallas married Theresa Lewis, and he was honored to add to his family three more children: Kristene Calvert of Spring Field, Missouri, Robert (Dana) Poley of Corning, Arkansas, and Randy Drake Calvert of Pearl, Mississippi. Dallas proudly served his country as a member of the 101st Airborne. He was known to his comrades as Sgt. BOO. Dallas was discharged from the military and became 100% disabled. He was not one to complain even though he battled MS for 35 years. If you asked Dallas how he was doing he would always say "I am fine as frog hair split four ways." Despite his disability, he still continued to work. He enjoyed his time running a gas station in Reyno, Arkansas, where if you needed a good mechanic he was always ready to help. Dallas had a passion for motorcycles. He was either riding or working on one. As his health took a toll, he started making his own trikes so he could continue to ride. He leaves behind a legacy of great love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Theresa and his six children. He was blessed with fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren with one on the way. He also leaves behind two brothers and two sisters, Henry L. (Teresa) Book of Redding, California, Randell (Kathy) Book of Blue Ridge, Texas, Judy (Dennis) Templeton of Piggott, Arkansas, and Regina Sawyer of Puxico, Missouri, and several niece and nephews and lots of loving cousins. He is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Riley and Lottie (Parton) Book and Henry and Ida (Parks) Mulherin; his brother-in-law, Curt Sawyer; and his nephew Randell Book, Jr. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 6, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas, with Bruce Vinson officiating. Burial is in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Drake Calvert, Robby Poley, Dallas Wayne Book, Jr., Joseph Book, Donny Cross, Nick Poley, Stanley Turner, Austin Book, and Josh Cantrell. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be held Friday, March 5, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
