Darrel Loton Johnson, 94, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away March 15, 2019, at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Arkansas.
He was born on January 7, 1925, in Piggott, Arkansas, and was the son of Rossie and Mary Belle (Vaughn) Johnson.
Darrel was united in marriage to Betty Ruth Mobley on January 7, 1951, and to this union three children were born.
Born and raised on a farm, Darrel loved to work the land with a mule team that he trained. Upon high school graduation in 1943, he was drafted into WWII as a marine. He was stationed on the island of Maui and served there till the end of the war. After coming home, he married Betty Ruth, his wife of 49 years. He raised a family by working as a maintenance mechanic in area factories. Darrel spent his free time pursuing his passion of training horses and mules. He leaves behind his beloved haflinger mare and donkey. He enjoyed spending time with his family and tinkering with his tools. Darrel was a lifelong member of Wright's Chapel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jackie Whiteside, brother, Donald Ray Johnson, father, Rossie Loton Johnson, and mother, Mary Belle Johnson.
Survivors include his son, Jim (Kim) Johnson of Jonesboro, Arkansas; daughters, Karen (Brent) Coomer of Piggott, Arkansas, and Carolyn Whiteside of North Little Rock, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jeremy (Ashley) Johnson, Jared (Samantha) Johnson, Quinten (Lucy) Whiteside, Caleb (Samantha) Whiteside, Jordan (Kyle) Coomer Edseth, and Spencer Coomer; great-grandchildren, Kane and Brystol Johnson, Quinn, Reese, and Karsyn Johnson, Hattie Whiteside, and Effie Edseth; brother, Bob Johnson of Piggott, Arkansas; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 18, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas, with Bro. Kevin Murray officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Johnson, Jared Johnson, Quinten Whiteside, Caleb Whiteside, Spencer Coomer, and Barry Johnson. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Sunday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
