Obituary

Donald Ray Burris, 88, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away January 17, 2019, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, Arkansas. He was born on January 27, 1930, in Crockett, Arkansas and was the son of William and Clara (Throgmorton) Burris. Donald was united in marriage to Carolyn Burris on March 28, 1958. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Burris; mother, Clara Burris; father, William Kurn Burris; and brother-in-law, Don Franklin Simpson. Donald was a longtime member of the Greenway Church of Christ. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Donald enjoyed playing the guitar and often played the harmonica at the nursing home. He also loved woodworking and animals. Survivors include his son, Mark Allen (Sherri) Burris of Piggott, Arkansas; daughters, Sherry Darlene (David) Brady of Bon Aqua, Tennessee, and Donna Dene (Crandal) Hagler of Paragould, Arkansas; grandchildren, Emilie (Jason) Ralston of Asheville, North Carolina, Calvin Hagler of Paragould, Arkansas, Cody (Amy) Burris of Piggott, Arkansas, and Sierra Burris of Kansas City, Missouri; great-grandchildren, William Boyd Burris, Samuel and Benjamin Ralston; brother, Willard Dean Burris of Troy, Missouri; sisters, Carolyn Nell (Bill) Harris of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Oneda Sue Hollis of Paragould, Arkansas; sister-in-laws, Bessie Mae (Bill) Fielder of Greenway, Arkansas, Jean Simpson of Piggott, Arkansas, and Maggie (Bill) Brigman of Campbell, Missouri; brother-in-law, Curtis Larry (Janice) Simpson of Lampasas, Texas; his adopted family at the nursing home, who loved and cared for him; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas, with Paul McFadden officiating. Burial is in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Burris, Terry Burris, Calvin Hagler, James Denison, Cody Burris, Lee Fielder, and Bill Brigman. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Greenway Church of Christ. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Friday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas.
