Elwanda Miller, 87, of Essex, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on August 8, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on June 22, 1939, in Leachville, Arkansas, and was the daughter of the late Sam and Grace Jones.
Elwanda was united in marriage to James C. “J.C.” Miller on September 28, 1968. They shared 41 happy years of marriage until his passing.
Elwanda loved the Lord, her church, and her church family. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she faithfully taught Sunday School and enjoyed visiting residents in the nursing home. She had a special love for children and especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and growing family.
She also enjoyed gardening and flowers, working puzzles, and spending time with those she loved. Elwanda had a caring heart and valued the many friendships she made throughout her life.
She is survived by her four sons, Tim (Diane) Stahl of Dexter, Missouri, Paul (Barb) Stahl of Bell City, Missouri, Sam Stahl of Bloomfield, Missouri, and Jeff (Rhonda) Miller of Essex, Missouri; 15 grandchildren, Karri, Tyler, Brian, Scott, Angel, Mariah, Joseph, Jacob, McKenzie, Abby, Breanna, Payton, David, Allen, Christie; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Miller; her parents, Sam and Grace Jones; her daughter, Teresa Williams; 12 brothers; and four sisters.
More than anything, Elwanda will be remembered as a devoted Christian, loving wife and mother, cherished grandmother, and faithful friend to many.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 14, 2026, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas, with funeral services immediately following at 1:30 p.m. Jim Traughber will officiate.
Burial will follow at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be Joseph Miller, Jacob Miller, Mitchel Harkness, Cole Stahl, Rodney Soileau, and Josh Sherfield.
Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
