Aug 7, 1942 — Jun 5, 2026
Gary Neil Magee was born on August 7, 1942, in Carryville and died on June 5, 2026, at the age of 83. Gary was the youngest son of Johnnie and Nenie (Rogers) Magee. Gary grew up in the Carryville area with his four brothers: Rex, J.W., Ray, James, and younger sister, Sue Ann. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Rex, J.W., Ray; and his sister, Sue Ann.
Gary graduated Piggott High School in 1960 and served a short time in the AR National Guard. He married Ramona Allen on June 14, 1963. To this union 4 children were born: Barry Neil Magee (Linda) of McAllen, Texas; LeAnn Magee Mann of Piggott; Tina Magee Case (Scott) of Bauxite; and Tracey Magee Mallard (Greg) of Charlottesville, VA.
Gary and Ramona were blessed with thirteen grandchildren: Garrett Magee (Celina), Caitlin Magee Shemin (Ken), Reese Magee, Riley Magee, Makenzie Magee, and their mother, Dana, Kevin Mann (Kim), Morgan Thrash (Thomas), Brandon Mann (Rachel), Peyton Mann (Graci), Carson Case (Erin), Ryker Case, Jessica Mallard Howell (Jarek), and Nate Mallard (Arykah); and 14 great-grandchildren.
Gary was a life-long cowboy - roping, trail riding, and hosting his many friends, neighbors, and families for years at the arena he built on his property. Gary was a well-known rodeo announcer and in his early days traveled as far north to Chicago to announce rodeos there along with many county fairs around our area, including the Clay County Fair. In his early 20s, he attended auction school in Fort Smith and, along with his wife, Ramona, founded Magee Auction & Realty, a successful and well-known business which they ran together for over 40 years.
He was the State Champion Auctioneer in 1990 and was appointed by Governor Bill Clinton to serve on the state board. Gary was the Clay County Circuit Clerk for over 20 years, running unopposed in every election except 2. He never lost an election in all that time. Gary was a 32nd degree Mason, and was a long time member of South Thornton Church of Christ. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
