Georgia Lena (Carpenter) Yost, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23rd, 2021, at the age of 94 in Memphis, Tennessee, surrounded by family.
She was born in Boydsville, Arkansas, on December 1st, 1926, to Johnny P. and Lura (Pickins) Carpenter.
Georgia was preceded in death by her husband Max Yost and their daughter Lura Sue; her sisters and brother-in-laws, Ila and L.C. Hester, Lorene and Ted Crowson, Imogene and Berlyss Holifield; brother Johnny Carpenter Jr.,; and two nephews, Jimmy Crowson and Michael Holifield.
She is survived by a daughter Ann Marie (Yost) Jarvis and husband Clyde Jarvis; two granddaughters, Baylee Max Wilkerson and Blair Madison Jarvis; sister-in-law, Viola Carpenter; brother-in-law, Rex and Evelyn Yost; nieces, Carolyn Wills, Anita Gore, Debbie Crowson, Penny Stafford, and Adorna (Yost) Mallard; nephews, Steve Carpenter and David Stanford; and numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews and friends, all of whom she loved unconditionally. Her cousin, Marston Carpenter, will be officiating the services.
Georgia met Max while working at General Motors in Flint, Michigan. They married in 1957 and lived in Flushing, Michigan until Max retired in 1982. They both loved to entertain, bowl, play cards, and never missed a sporting event their daughter, Ann, participated in. They moved to Piggott, Arkansas, just as they had planned for years, to be closer to Georgia's family.
Growing up on a farm, Georgia helped her family with the gardening and picking cotton. School Teacher, Phone Operator, Sales Clerk, Clothing Model, Room Mom and Store Manager were just a few of Georgia's many jobs throughout her life. She was also a wonderful house wife for many, many years. Georgia had a God given gift for being a caregiver. She cared for her husband until he passed away in May of 2002 and her oldest daughter, Sue, until she passed away in May of 2013.
Georgia was so loved by her friends and family. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy. She had pictures of them everywhere in her apartment and would brag on them any chance she had. Baylee and Blair love their sweet "Gammy". When Georgia would visit her granddaughters, she would always love to watch them play sports, sing in the choir or watch whatever school activity they were participating in.
Georgia also loved talking to and checking in on her friends everyday. Imogene Martin, Lou Forrest, Alice Gregory and her daughter Ann were a few that she would call each day to see if they "knew anything new" that day to talk about. Her sister-in-law, Viola, would stop by each week to have lunch and take a drive out to the cemetery to make sure there were flowers on loved ones headstones. She was active in the First United Methodist Church and the Women's Ministries.
Georgia was a beautiful, classy lady that was always dressed to a T, hair done, nails painted and lip stick on. She was kind, polite and never met a stranger. Georgia will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 30, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. with funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m. at Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas, with Marston Carpenter, officiating.
