James 'Jim' Travillion Metz, 66, of Madison, Mississippi, formerly of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away Friday, April 3, 2015, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He was born on January 26, 1949, in Piggott, Arkansas, and was the son of James Metz and Audine (Bearden) Smart. He was preceded in death by his mother, Audine Smart; and wife, Willie Jo Metz. Jim served in the Marine Corps on a Force Recon Unit in Vietnam earning three Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star with Valor and the Navy Commendation Medal for valor in battle. He later attended Mississippi College earning a degree in Law. He was a partner at Purdie and Metz Law firm. Jim was an Assistant Attorney General in Mississippi. He had a very diverse career working in the movie industry and the oil industry, among other things. He enjoyed hunting for Indian artifacts, driving and trading cars, collecting guns, and spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Metz of the home; father, James V. Metz and wife Faye of Jackson, Mississippi; two sons, Jason Metz and wife Jessica of Jackson, Mississippi, and Dusty Metz and fiance Anna of Jackson, Mississippi; step daughter, Candy Taylor and husband Bruce of Corning, Arkansas; step sons: Sam Williams and wife Melissa of Piggott, Arkansas, and Travis Williams and wife Shannon of Piggott, Arkansas; eight granddaughters: Cara Lea, Georgia Kate, Ashley, Karsen, Molly, Maggie, Kaitlin, and Kiley; four half brothers: Timmy Metz and wife Joy of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, Tommy Metz of Pearl, Mississippi, Paul Metz and wife Melanie of Dallas, Texas, and Michael Lane of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two half sisters: Jamie Adams and husband Fagun of Lake, Mississippi, and Susan Evans of Jonesboro, Arkansas Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at South Thornton Church of Christ in Piggott, Arkansas, with Shawn Parker officiating. Burial is in New Hope Cemetery in Pollard, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Alan Purdie, Byron Duncan, Gary Gidcomb, Sam Williams, Travis Williams, and Frank Staples. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation begins Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until service time.
