Obituary

James Gerald Runyon, 91, of rural Pollard, AR passed away at his home Saturday, July 25, 2020. His greatest pleasure in life was time spent with his wife Billie, daughters Shelley Warr of Mountain Home and Kelley Lee of Memphis, granddaughter Grace Lee of New Brunswick, NJ and sons-in-law Otis Warr and Mark Lee. A man of honor and of impeccable character, he served his home church of Trailers Chapel as a treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years. Gerald enlisted in the Army during the Korean Conflict serving in the 32nd Regiment, Infantry Division. He was a member of the Gideons and also a former member of the Piggott School Board. Mr. Runyon was a retired rural mail carrier, having served 30 years, and was a 49 year Mason, member of the Eastern Star Lodge #207 in St. Francis. His ordination as a deacon was held at the Moark Presbytery Meeting in Piggott Aug. 22, 1958. Mr. Runyon was born Dec. 3, 1928 at Pollard, the son of Rev. Isaac and Myrtle Burkhead Runyon. He was united in marriage to Billie Greenway April 14, 1956. She survives, as do his daughters, sons-in-law and granddaughter. Other survivors are three sisters, Julia Pittman, Marie Hillyer, and Jean Scheffler all of Piggott, a sister-in-law Stella Runyon of Coulterville, IL, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Barney and Christie Greenway of Kennett, MO and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers infant Doyne Frederick Runyon, Rev. Edwin Runyon, and Kenneth Runyon. Private funeral services were held Monday, July 27, 2020 at his home church, Trailers Chapel with pastor Bro. Loran Johnson officiating, and former pastor Bro. Lavone Smart officiated at the burial service in New Hope Cemetery, Pollard, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of arrangements.
