With solemn hearts we announce the passing of Janice Barnes Curry, 75, of Piggott, Arkansas on March 4 from complications following surgery to remove bile duct cancer. Janice was born July 31, 1949 in Memphis, TN and grew up in Steele, MO where she graduated from South Pemiscot High School. She attended Freed Hardman University and Arkansas State University before marrying Joe Max Curry August 31, 1968. The family moved from Steele, MO to Opelika, AL to Caruthersville, MO before settling in Campbell, MOfrom 1979 to 2020 where she taught computer classes at Campbell, R-2 for several years before later working and retiring after 17 years from Ozark Border in Malden, MO. She was a lifelong artist, earning accolades from numerous area county fairs and was commissioned by many to paint portraits of loved ones, pets and special automobiles. She loved to travel to visit family and would often share stories of interesting people she had met on the train or plane.
Janice is survived by her beloved dog Ozzie; daughter Jenifer Curry Menz (Steve) of Boerne, TX; grandson Tucker Menz (Caitlin) of Weatherford, TX; granddaughter Kelly Menz of New Braunfels, TX; son Joe D Curry (Laura) of Piggott, AR; grandson Kyle Robinson and great-granddaughter Annabelle Robinson of Campbell, MO; son Jonathan Curry (Kara) and granddaughters Nolah and Nora Curry of Campbell; brother Brad Barnes (Pam),nephew Brian Barnes(Rhonda) and nieces Laura Barnes Gaines(Brian)and Angela Barnes Joyce (Michael);sister Luana Loomis (Peter), nephew Daniel Harley (Kristi) and Amanda Harley Hanes (Jake); sister Laurie Gibbons (Neal) and nieces Kelly Haner (Jason) and Tracie Napier (Alex); and fourteen great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Curry, her parents Chester and Rubye (Pritchard) Barnes and her mother and father-in law Rudolph and Vivian (Crawford) Saulsberry.
A memorial service honoring her life will be held on Friday March 21 at 3pm at the Heritage Park Amphitheater in Piggott, AR. In the case of inclement weather, the services will be held at Emmanual Baptist Church in Piggott.
