J.C. Shelton, 75, of Greenway, Arkansas, passed away December 3, 2024, at his home.
He was born on August 20, 1949, in Turrell, Arkansas, and was the son of the late J.C. Shelton and Carly Emmer Dean (Field) Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Paulette Shelton; his second wife, Bonnie Shelton; daughter, Adriane Shelton; sister, Sarah Stanton; brother, Bert Shelton; stepson, J.D. Laxton; and great grandson, Caiden Tharp.
J.C. served in the Crittenden County Jail for over 40 years working as Assistant Chief Jailor for many years until his retirement in 2011. After retirement, he moved to Greenway, Arkansas, where he owned the historic Greenway Jail. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and gardening. He especially loved deer - both hunting deer and John Deere tractors. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed making those around him laugh.
J.C. is survived by his children, Holly Simmons and husband Chris, Joshua Shelton and wife Synthya; stepchildren, Larry Laxton, Johnda Gosnell, Henry Laxton and wife Angie, Tina Laxton, and John Laxton; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; sister, Faye Motter of Michigan; his dog, Dollar; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:30 am at the Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas, with Danny Pankey officiating. Burial is in Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Henry Laxton, John Laxton, Larry Laxton, William Myers, Rowdy Hayes, and Austin Thrasher. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
