Jimmie Victor Smith, 92, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed Monday, February 20, 2017, at the Malden Nursing Center, Malden, Missouri. Jimmie was born on Sunday, April 20, 1924, in Powhatan, Arkansas. He was the son of Jim Holobaugh and Edna Gertrude Wallin Tillotson. He was adopted as an infant by William Washington Smith. Jimmie married Delia Mae Kemper of Nimmons, AR on February 8, 1944 in Piggott, AR and to this union three children were born; Jimmie Victor Smith Jr (Jack), Wayne Smith and Linda Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse Delia Mae Kemper Smith, October 30, 1998; daughter, Linda Smith, August 28, 1968 and sister, Betty Smith McFaddin. Jimmie is survived by his spouse Jean Hooten Smith, his two sons: Jack and wife Sharon of Rockford, IL; Wayne and wife Jackie of St Francis, AR. Grandchildren; Barry (Halah) Smith, Michele (Art) Becker, Greg (Angie) Smith, Jeniffer (Bill) Harper, Ethan Smith, Eli Smith, Noah Smith and 10 great-grandchildren. Two sisters; Joe Evelyn Smith McClanahan and Betty Holobaugh Born both of Pocahontas, AR and many other relatives and friends. At the age of 16 Jim worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Idaho where he was a truck driver and constructed fire breaks. Jim was a veteran, enlisting in the Marine Corps in July 1942 and stationed in the Pacific theatre in WWII. Jim was a truck mechanic earning the rank of sergeant. After his military service he owned a saw mill cutting rail road ties and then relocated his family to Rockford, IL where he was a truck driver for Jones Truck Line. He returned to the Piggott area in 1959 purchasing a farm and later starting a trucking business that he operated for 40 years. This trucking business is now owned and operated by his son, Wayne. Jim was part of a country band, the Dixie Drifters in the Rockford, IL area in the 1950s. It was a four person band with Jim playing guitar and steel guitar, Delia singing and others in the band were Jack and Sandy Trotter. Jimmie was also a duck hunter and avid fisherman. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel followed by a family grave side service officiated by Pastor Bruce Vinson at New Hope Cemetery, Pollard, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
