Joe Henderson, 83, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away October 21, 2020, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, Arkansas. He was born on August 16, 1937, in Hill County, Texas, and was the son of the late George Dewey and Ida (Hester) Henderson. Joe was united in marriage to Gail Lynn Neely in Holly Springs, Mississippi, on November 29, 1958. This union was blessed by three children, Joseph Cleaon Henderson, Jennifer Lynn Henderson McPherson, and James Dewey Henderson. On December 3, 2013, his wife, Gail, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Dewey Henderson; granddaughter, Angelic Perez; grandson, Rusty McPherson; four brothers, Wayne, James, George Jr., and Donald Henderson. Joe served in the United States Navy for 6 years serving on the USS Essex. He was a student of military and aviation and especially enjoyed reading about WWII. He also loved duck hunting. Survivors include his son, Joseph "Jody" Henderson and wife Giovanna of Piggott, Arkansas, daughter, Jennifer McPherson and husband David of Piggott, Arkansas; grandchildren, Lauren Thompson and husband KC of Orlando, Florida, Ian Henderson, Zane Henderson, Chaz Perez and wife Nicole of Piggott, Arkansas, Nina Portillo and husband Alberto of Missouri City, Texas, Matthew McPherson and fiancée Lauren of Paragould, Arkansas, and Brady McPherson and fiancée April of Piggott, Arkansas; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Earnest Henderson and wife Janette of Itasca, Texas; sister, Laverne Fletcher of Fort Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 24, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas, with Jerry Morgan officiating. A private family burial will be held at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
