Obituary

John Raymond Lingle, 69, a native of Piggott passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012. He was the son of the late John Ed Lingle and survived by his mother Georgia Mowery Lingle Wilson of Piggott. He graduated from Piggott High School in 1960. He was preceded in death by his father, John Ed Lingle and a Granddaughter, Ashton Lee Lingle. He graduated in 1964 from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro with a degree in Political Science and he received his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Arkansas School of Law in Fayetteville in 1967. John practiced law in Piggott for his entire career, for over 40 years . He was first elected as Piggott City Attorney in 1989, serving the city in that role continuously since that date. Legal Aid of Arkansas recognized John as the Volunteer Attorney of the Year for Clay County for 2005 and 2011. The award, given each year by Legal Aid of Arkansas, a nonprofit corporation providing free legal services, recognizes outstanding volunteerism and service in each of the 31 counties Legal Aid serves. Susan M. Purtle, Pro Bono Manager and Senior Attorney for Legal Aid of Arkansas stated "Mr. Lingle never stopped caring for or stopped serving those who could not afford an attorney. His pro bono service was exemplary and a credit to the legal profession." He was a member of the Piggott First United Methodist Church for almost 50 years where he served in any capacity needed. He was an avid supporter of Piggott Mohawk sports, especially football. He also loved his Arkansas Razorbacks. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sharon Kay Seal Lingle, his daughter Cara Elizabeth Lingle, two sisters, Linda Lingle of Washington DC and Kaye Koonce and her husband Randy Koonce of Charleston, South Carolina, mother-in-law Kathleen Seal, brother in laws Jim Seal and his wife Donna of Conway, and Bill Seal and his wife Cathy of Dequeen, Arkansas, and many other family, friends and colleagues in the legal profession. Visitation will be held at Hoggard Funeral Home, Piggott, AR at 6pm on Monday, Oct. 15th. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the Piggott First United Methodist Church. Interment will be at Piggott Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Piggott First United Methodist Church or the Helping Hands Food Pantry P.O. Box 324, Piggott, Arkansas, 72454.
