Leland Eugene Payne, 83, of St. Louis, Missouri, passed away July 11, 2022, at the Evelyn's House in Creve Coeur, Missouri.
He was born on November 14, 1938, in Rector, Arkansas, and was the son of the late D.C. and Evelyn Duncan Payne.
He was united in marriage to Jerry Ann Wyatt and to this union three sons were born. Jerry Ann preceded him in death on January 18, 2003.
He was also preceded in death by his infant son; brother, John Payne; and sister, Helen Overall.
Leland will be fondly remembered by friends, neighbors, and family. He loved his family dearly, as was seen with his constant calls and check-ins with his beloved sons and grandchildren. Leland enjoyed listening to Elvis and country music and did an impressive rendition of "Blue Christmas" by Elvis Presley. Leland loved spending time with his late wife, Jerry, going to their sons' baseball games, both saying "it was the best time of our lives." When able, Leland was able to watch his grandchildren and their many sports. Leland had an enormous heart, very generous and would do anything for anyone.
Survivors include his sons, Kenneth Payne and wife Michele of Pacific, Missouri, and Phillip Payne and wife Whitney of Manchester, Missouri; grandchildren: Weston Payne and Brooklyn Payne both of Manchester, Missouri, and Kaitlin Payne, Andrew Payne, Caroline Payne, Luke Payne, and Logan Payne all of Pacific, Missouri; brother, Jim Payne of West Virginia; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and Hoggard & Sons Chapel beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Ken Price officiating. Burial will follow at Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas.
