Obituary

Letha Laverne Joseph Hoggard was born April 26, 1937, to Joe A. Joseph and Pearl Suggs Joseph in Wichita, Kansas. Her youth was spent in Kansas, North Carolina, and Arkansas. While a student at Arkansas State University, her smile caught the eye of Calvin F. Hoggard and they married in 1960 in Piggott, Arkansas, with Calvin's brother Gerald and his wife, Sue as witnesses. Letha worked for a brief time as a chemist but the majority of her working years were spent with the State of Tennessee working in Quality Control; she retired as a supervisor after 30 plus years. She and Calvin had two children, Pam and Mark Hoggard, and the four of them had many travels, vacations, and memory-making moments over the years. When Letha retired, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and continued travel. She made it to 49 of the 52 states in her lifetime; she also went to England, Scotland, and Ireland with her lifelong friend Pat Stewmon. Despite a fight and enormous courage, ALS took her from us on September 1, 2019 – our loss but heaven's gain on that day. She leaves a world of people who will miss her dearly but who are so much better off having known her: her husband, Calvin Hoggard, her daughter and son-in-love Pam and David Cook, her son and daughter-in-love, Mark and Susan Hoggard…her grandchildren, Chase Fryer, Shelby (and Blake) Parr, Colby Cook, Scotty (and Fran) Triplett…her sisters, Viva Shipley and Mary Ellen King, her sisters-in-love, Kitty Hoggard and Sue Hoggard…and multiple nieces and nephews, great-niece and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl Suggs Joseph King and Joe A. Joseph; her brother, Sam A. Joseph; her brothers; and sisters-in-love, Billy Wayne Hoggard, Gerald Hoggard, Glenda Goundry, and Jeanette Joseph. Letha, you are our sunflower. We lovingly part with you, knowing you are safe in God's most gracious eternal care. A visitation will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Arlington, Tennessee, with a memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. with John Horne officiating.
