Peggy Louise (Smith) Smart, of Pollard, Arkansas left this world on November 03, 2019 at the age of 71, after a hard-fought battle with chronic kidney disease.
She was born on December 20, 1947 in Searcy, Arkansas to J.D. Smith and Louise Smith of Augusta, Arkansas.
Peggy was a graduate of Laura Conner High School in Augusta. She later attended Arkansas State University where she met her husband, Thomas Henry Smart of Pollard. The two were joined in marriage on June 1, 1968.
Peggy was retired from the Department of Human Services, and enjoyed her retirement by relaxing on the farm, rescuing animals, and supporting her grandchildren in athletics, FFA and rodeo. She had a passion for working with her hands, and was a talented seamstress and gardener.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J.D. Smith and Louise Smith; her husband, Thomas Henry Smart; her grandson, Thomas Butler Smart; her brother, Billy Ray Smith; and her sister, Flodene Smith.
Peggy is survived by her sister, Polly Ann McCormick; her sons Thomas Wade Smart and John Daniel Smart; her daughter, Katherine Louise Smart; her daughter-in-law, Peggy Leah Smart; and her granddaughters, Hannah Grace Smart, Morgan Dawn Smart and Rebecca Charmayne Smart. She is also survived by her three beloved rescue dogs Cinch, Hooey and Roman, and her cat, Rascal.
Peggy will be remembered for her love of coca-cola, classic music, John Wayne, waiting to shop for Christmas presents until December 24 th , and caring for all of God's creatures. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and a dear friend that will be missed by many.
Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2019, 6-8 p.m., at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home, 142 N 3 rd Ave in Piggott, Arkansas. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, November 6, 2019, 2 p.m. at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home, officiated by Chaplain Jenny Boone Smith, Peggy's sister-in-law. Burial will follow immediately at Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Arkansas.
