Sammy Charles
Winstead
Oct 14, 1943 — Sep 16, 2022
Sammy Charles Winstead, 78, of Greenway, Arkansas, passed away September 16, 2022, at Campbell General Baptist Nursing Home in Campbell, Missouri.
He was born on October 14, 1943, in Piggott, Arkansas, and was the son of Jake and Flora (Landrum) Winstead.
Sam was united in marriage to Evelyn Calhoun on December 11, 1998.
Sam served 22 years in the United States Navy retiring in 1987 as Chief Commander. He later worked 10 years at the United States Postal Service as a Mail Carrier until retirement. During his retirement he enjoyed planting roses and fruit trees, gardening, and working on fish ponds - keeping them stocked for others to enjoy fishing and catching them for him. He had a passion for family, food, and friends. He loved spending time with his family and friends and especially loved his kids and grandchildren. He never missed sending a birthday card to them. He never met a stranger and loved going to the coffee shop to tell lies with the postal co-workers. He would often tell stories and jokes and just laugh at them. He played many jokes on his sons-in-law. He loved going out to eat, being outside, or inside watching TV.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step dad, Cecil Lack; and siblings, Mildred Jones, David Lack, Herbert Lack, Dennie Lack, Norman Lack, and Theron Lack; and his son-in-law, Kin Allen.
Sammy is survived by his wife, Evelyn Winstead; children: Flora Winstead of Laie, Hawaii, Lesa Beck and husband Roger of Piggott, Arkansas, Vonda Samples of Gideon, Missouri, Michelle Bradshaw and husband Greg of Greenway, Arkansas, Eva Winstead of Greenway, Arkansas, and Michael Winstead of Parma, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Nimmons City Hall. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements.
