Obituary

Robert Samuel (Sam) Stewart, age 91, passed away on August 15, 2021, in Florida. A native of Arkansas, Sam lived in California for almost 20 years before returning to the South. He retired from the Davidson County Sheriff's Department in Nashville, Tennessee, and spent his golden years traveling the country, fishing and pursuing his artistic talents of painting and woodcarving. Sam is preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Marie Stewart; wife of nearly 50 years Joyce Griffith Stewart; beloved son Fred Stewart; and sister June (Don) Johnson. He is survived by Rose his wife of 17 years and fellow artist; grandchildren Dale (April), Shane (Maritza) and Kimberly; great-grandchildren Leonel, Allesandra, and Samuel; daughter-in-law Helen; nephew Barry (Vicky) Johnson; niece Raye Lynn (Charlie) Haywood; and a host of cherished family and friends across the country. Following a graveside service Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Piggott Cemetery officiated by Dr. L. Randolph Lowry, Sam will be laid to rest at Memorial Gardens in his hometown of Piggott.
