Obituary

Sylvia Jean "Sue" Self, 76, of Bryant, Arkansas, formerly of Piggott, died Tuesday morning, Jan. 25, 2022, at Evergreen Living Center after a lengthy illness. Her family rejoices that she is pain free and reunited with loved ones and her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, Whit and Gertrude Hartsfield Brown, tenant farmers near Holly Grove, AR, where Sue was born the youngest of eight children. Siblings preceding her in death were two brothers, Eulis Earl Brown and Julian "Joe" Brown, and three sisters, Mary Hartsell, Helen Vining and Barbara Bryant. Sue was an active member of Baptist churches over the years with her last membership at Emmanuel Baptist of Piggott where she served in various ministries including the choir, Sunday School teacher, AWANAS helper and bereavement committee. She was a former bank teller at the drive-thru at Piggott State Bank and previously worked in the accounting department of Piggott Community Hospital. Her favorite occupation was grandmother of 10 and mother of four. She was married for 3 years to her best friend of over 25 years, Harold Hanna, who passed away in 2017. She is survived by her four sons and spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Mark Self (Angela Davis) of Russellville; Dr. and Mrs. Christopher Todd Self (Ronda Webb) of Bryant; Dr. and Mrs. Jason Self (Angie Dunaway) of Piggott and Drs. Matthew Wayne Self (Susan McAlister) of Dover; four grandsons, Jared (wife, Micah), J.D., Kenny and Nathan Self, 5 granddaughters, Callie (husband, Francisco) Gomez Jr., Cameron, Emma, Anna and Lilly Self; one step-granddaughter, Kelsey (husband, Alexander)Robbins; a great-grandson on the way, Jesse Dakota Self; two brothers, James Brown of Brinkley, and Kenneth "Butch" Brown of Proctor as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Matthew, Jared, J.D., Kenny and Nathan Self and Alex Robbins. Honorary pallbearers will be her brothers. Family visitation will begin at noon on Saturday, Jan. 29, at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott followed by a public viewing at 1 pm. The service, officiated by Bro. Todd Self, assisted by Bro. Jason Self, will begin at 2 pm. Burial will follow in the Piggott Cemetery, directed by Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home.
