Verna Blake, 85, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away May 16, 2019, at Piggott General Baptist Nursing Home in Piggott, Arkansas. She was born on January 15, 1934, in Piggott, Arkansas, and was the daughter of Orlie and Thelma (Beckley) Woodard. Verna was united in marriage to Donald W Blake on September 7, 1952, and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Blake; father, Orlie Woodard; mother, Thelma C. Woodard. Verna was a longtime member of South Thornton Church of Christ in Piggott, Arkansas. She worked many years at Piggott State Bank as a loan officer. Survivors include her daughter, Melda Brown of Bryant, Arkansas; son, Dennis N. Blake, M.D. and wife Stacey of Piggott, Arkansas, three grandchildren, Nicholas Smotherman, Sandra Shipe and husband Justin, Natalie Blake, three great-grandchildren, Makayla Shipe, Jordan Shipe, and Isabella Smotherman; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 19, 2019, at 2:00 pm at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas, with Bro. Jerry Morgan officiating. Burial is in Piggott Cemetery in Piggott, Arkansas. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Saturday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in Piggott, Arkansas.
