Vernon Willie, 89, of Piggott, Arkansas, passed away November 28, 2021, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Arkansas.
He was born on October 29, 1932, in Greenway, Arkansas, and was the son of the late Edgar and Flara (Dover)Willie.
He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1952.
Vernon was united in marriage to Valda (Ezell) Willie on June 1, 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Flara Willie; infant son, Darrell Ray Willie; and brother, Delaine "Red" Willie; .
Vernon is survived by his wife of 65 years Valda Willie; two daughters, Deborah Kay Jackson and husband Randy of Piggott, Arkansas, Sandra Jean Tate of Poplar Bluff, Missouri; three grandchildren, Tina Piland of Piggott, Arkansas, Royce Evans of Quinlan, Texas and Justin Evans and wife Colby of Piggott, Arkansas; three great-grandchildren, Will Whaley, Brady Whaley and Anthony Gummalauski; three great-great-grandchildren, Hera Whaley, Michael Gummalauski and Waylon Gummalauski; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 2, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Hitts Chapel General Baptist Church in Piggott, Arkansas, with Bro. Charles Richardson officiating. Burial is in Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Will Whaley, Justin Evans, Brady Whaley, Anthony Gummalauski, Brent Ezell and Danny Seal. Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Arkansas, is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation is Thursday from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Hitts Chapel General Baptist Church in Piggott, Arkansas.
