Obituary

Virgil Thomas Low, AKA "VT Low", 95, of Dermott, AR passed away December 12, 2017 at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello, AR, He was born on December 26, 1921 in Rives, MO., and was the son of the late John William Low and Minnie Marie Marchbanks Low. He was united in marriage to Martha Lucille Smith on April 18, 1947 and to this union three daughters and two sons were born. Virgil was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his services. He was a lifetime member and a 32nd degree mason of the Masonic Eastern Star Lodge #207. He was a former member of the St. Francis Baptist Church and the Fords Chapel Baptist Church in the Friendship Community. At the age of 18 Virgil started and ran his own sawmill until he joined the army. After his service in the army, he returned home to farm. He was also an inventor who patented the Low's E-Z Way Trailer system. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lucille, the Mother of their children, his daughter Farris Marlene and son Ronald Trent and his second wife Emily. He is survived by a son, Myron Low and wife Marilyn of Piggott, AR., two daughters Frances Low Finder of Cabot, AR, Faye Low Speer and husband David Speer of Dermott, AR; seven grandchildren: Randy Low, Melinda Kelley, Lana Breedlove, Stephen Trent Finder, Chad Speer, Craig Scott and Leanna Britton; ten great grandchildren and three great- great- grandchildren, sister: Lorene Hampton of Alabama; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Francis Baptist Church in St. Francis, AR with Brother Doug Clinton officiating. Burial is in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Francis Baptist Church. Pallbearers are: Stephen Trent Finder, Chad Speer, Craig Scott, Chris Smith, Larry Gatewood, Kenny Lemarr, and Robert Charles. Honorary Pallbearer: Randy Low. Hoggard and Son's Funeral Home, Piggott, AR is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, family request memorials to be made to the St. Francis Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
