Beloved William Claude Irby, 84, passed away on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott, Arkansas.
Mr. Irby was born in Pontiac, Michigan to William Edgar Irby and Emogene Simpson, on April 27, 1934. He went to school at the University of Arkansas where he played baseball. He married Beverly Ann Underwood on December 27, 1955. He was a skilled entrepreneur. After college, he served as a pilot in the United States Air Force, stationed in Germany from 1957 to 1960, and earned the rank of First Lieutenant.He moved back to Piggott, Arkansas and started Irby Ford Sales from 1960 to 1976. He was owner of Irby Super Saver in 1976, which he sold in 1998. He was an active member of the South Thornton Church of Christ and was respected by the congregation and his peers. Mr. Irby was a lover of University of Arkansas sports, an avid golfer, and enthusiastic traveler - visiting 49 states with wife, Beverly. Mr. Irby was a devoted husband, loving father, adoring granddaddy, and affectionate great-granddaddy. He will be missed deeply by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
He is survived by wife, Beverly Irby and also three beautiful daughters; Gail Robinson, wife of Philip Robinson, of Fort Mill, SC., Lynae Cole, wife of John Cole, of Jonesboro, AR., Allison Jacobs, wife of Philip Jacobs, of Fort Smith, AR., five grandchildren; Lauren Cole Hester, Ryan Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Mallory Cole Manning, William Russell Jacobs, five great-grandchildren; Siddalee Manning, Colette Manning, Benjamin Robinson, Charlie Hester, and William Robinson.
Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Arkansas.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at Hoggard & Sons Chapel in Piggott, Arkansas, with Brother Richard Akins of Bono Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Piggott Cemetery. Arrangements are made by Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Robinson, Daniel Robinson, Russell Jacobs, Daniel Hester, Bryan Manning, and Trent Holcomb. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Holcomb, Don Roeder, James Magee, David Ballard, and Donnie Williams.
